Rance Lawson, suffering from PTSD and survivor's guilt from his time in Afghanistan, finds peace from his anxiety and depression by wandering the mountains of Wyoming alone. Having sworn off female companionship, he becomes a mountain man, completely content hiking from Jackson Wyoming, to Shoshone National Forest, until on one trip, he finda a lost and helpless pre-teenaged boy standing over his dead father far from civilization. It is then that he decides he could help guide people to keep them from getting lost or from harm on the trail. He discovers that he has fallen in love with not one but two women who are in a battle for his affection, which soon ends in murder and death.
